About the Opportunity

 

As a Protection and Control Engineer/Technologist you will:

  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems and associated communication equipment. 
  • Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panel, transformers & circuit breaker changeouts.
  • Perform end-to-end relay testing to verify carrier and fiber systems.
  • Perform electro-mechanical relay testing of GE, Westinghouse, ITE, etc.
  • Perform relay testing of micro processor based Schweitzer, GE-UR series, Multilin, Basler, Beckwith, Circuit Shield, Arreva, Schneider, etc.
  • Read and interpret control prints, writing diagrams, and relaying schematics. 
  • Conduct differential and distance relay testing.
  • Assist in developing written standard commissioning, testing and maintenance procedures for protective relaying, DFR's, RTU's, IED's, Distribution Automation and associated communication systems. 
  • Manage projects onsite throughout the duration and effectively interface and own the relationship with customers and their vendors
  • Manage, plan and schedule various project aspects
  • Work on industrial work sites
  • Travel often for projects throughout North America (up to 200 days per year)

Qualifications:

  • An Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • A Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation from a Canadian P. Eng. licensing body will be considered an asset
  • Minimum 3-5 years of power systems engineering experience with both design and field familiarity
  • Utility experience is considered an asset
  • Complex DCS (Digital Control Systems experience considered an asset
  • Hands on field experience in an industrial setting considered an asset
  • Understanding of microprocessor-based relays would be an asset
  • A valid driver's license is required as travel is necessary and fieldwork will be a requirement of this position
  • Must have ability to travel throughout North America
